The original Agnes was built at Front Street, Pembroke Dock, in 1907 for 14 year-old Fred Knight of Hakin. It was basically a 'Tenby Punt' which was a workhorse ferry in its day, but Agnes was used for long-line fishing on the Haven until 1947 when Fred retired due to ill-health. Though the boat was equipped with a standing lugsail and a mizzen, it was generally rowed.
The boat was kept in the family for a few more years and eventually abandoned on the beach. Many years later it was acquired by the Castle Museum at Haverfordwest.
In 1992 Agnes was given to us for restoration. By then, it was beyond repair. Much later, when our resources permitted, we built the replica, Agnes 2; launched in 2019, you'll see it often on the Haven.
The photos show AGNES alongside its replica.
